A casket is a rectangular box which is of sufficent size to be able to hold the ashes, whereas an urn is a vase shaped container designed for the same purpose. Caskets suitable for burial are traditionally manufactured from wood, but stricter enviromental regulations have resulted in a greater choice of products that are bio-degradable therefore metal urns are now generally considered unsuitable.
We keep in stock two designs of real wood caskets, both available in either American oak or rosewood stained mahogany. One is more decorative with two brass rings, the other a plainer design can be seen to the right. All our wooden caskets also include a brass coloured plastic name plate for identification purposes and the simpler design is also available in a larger size that will take the ashes of two persons.
Shown in the adjacent picture is a bio-degradeable urn made using real leaves which is available in four colours and with an engraved name plate if requested. Alternatively, there are plain cardboard boxes which can be used for burial or you could choose a casket made from natural materials such as willow, banana leaf or water hyacinth (as shown).
Another option is a decorated wooden casket covered with pictures (a sunset design is shown below). There are many different designs which are readily available or you can design one to your own requirements, if you wish. For more information use the "colourful coffins" link.
